  • Since more than a decade now the Colombian franchise sector keeps on growing. Due to a market saturation in other regions, for instance in Europe, international franchise systems consider more and more emerging markets as a possible target market. This development may be one explanation for the growth of the Colombian franchise sector. Nevertheless, there does not exist any prediction for the future development of this market. Consequently, this study identifies the key variables of the Colombian franchise sector, in order to draw a possible panorama of the future, which is based on six critical variables and six hypotheses. The investigation makes use on the one hand of secondary data through an analysis of the sec-tor in Germany and Colombia, and on the other hand also uses primary data through the conduction of four expert interviews. Finally, the investigation strives to offer possible recommended courses of action, in order to reach the chosen scenario for the future, which implies a sustainable growth of the sector, positioning Colombia as a regional power behind Brazil and Mexico.
