Objective. Understand how evidence-based recommendations (EBRs) influence some aspects of the physician-patient relationship (PPR) (e.g., hierarchy, decision-making, communication, trust). Methodology. It is a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive case study carried out in Bogotá (Colombia) from January to October 2022. For this study, the research team conducted six semi-structured interviews with six patients and one caregiver, two focus groups of two health professionals each, all selected by convenience sampling, and a documentary analysis of the disseminated EBRs. The information was audio-recorded and transcribed for thematic analysis supported by the NVivo® software. Once theoretical saturation was reached, data collection was completed, and the emergent codes and categories were validated through peer review. Results. Four themes were identified: a) health professionals’ and users’ perception of communication skills; b) characteristics that motivate decisions; c) aspects that strengthen the RMP; and d) how some elements of the RMP are transformed. The experiences of the interviewees were represented metaphorically with movie titles. Discussion. EBRs became a communication tool that facilitated decision-making and patient empowerment. They promoted trust in physicians, their understanding of patients’ contexts, and close communication. Building RMP requires a transversal process during the undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
