abstract

  • Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is considered the most prevalent respiratory problems and economic impact in the world, in the adult population. It is considered a health priority, one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Multiple studies, designed to determine why patients with COPD are readmitted to the emergency services show that inhaled bronchodilators at home, not used properly, resulting in poor response to treatment and poor adherence in addition to its use, lack of education. Methodology: Quasi-Experimental study in COPD patients admitted to Hospital Mederi Mayor, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Inhaler use is assessed according to GINA guidelines; an educational video showing the 7 steps laid evaluating ventilatory parameters before education and 24 hours of education. Results: Given the response of inhaled bronchodilators and changes in FEV, 63% of the population had a significant increase in ventilatory parameters, taking into account that the most prevalent drug was ipratropium bromide. The results, after education, show an improvement (> 70%), with a statistically significant difference (p <0.001). Conclusions: Health education and the use of basic technology can generate changes in the condition and quality of life of patients in both ventilatory parameters and adherence to inhaled bronchodilators.
