abstract

  • The massive and abrupt migratory phenomenon that Venezuela has experienced due to the political and economic crisis since 2014 has been a challenge in terms of supply of health services and resources in Colombia, under this premise, during this research the effect that the migratory phenomenon has on the assistance services referring to the care and treatment of 6 subgroups of cancer diseases was analyzed, In this case, a diverse set of information regarding health entities, migration and general information was used, and by means of a fixed effects regression of year-month and municipality, it is sought to find causal effects that quantify the problem. As a result, we obtained a significant effect of an increase in the majority of health care services as a result of the increase in the migratory flow. For example, for breast cancer, the increase in the migratory flow in a matter of one standard deviation results in an increase of 10.59 on average in the incidence of care, which represents a high number, since it corresponds to 8.4% based on the general average. Thus, it is advisable for the Colombian state to take measures in the face of this increasing effect in order to provide universal cancer health coverage.
