abstract

  • The literature on Sustainable Business Models (SBM) has increased exponentially in recent years due to the environmental problems faced around the world in addition to the marked social gaps. The objective of the research is to understand how the archetypes of sustainable business models are seen in the literature. For the above, the WOS database was consulted, and articles that included keywords such as sustainable business models, sustainable development, SBM archetypes or circular economy were filtered, resulting in the thematic analysis of 12 articles. It was found that, for the concept of SBM, it is essential that the company has economic, social and/or environmental sustainability. Those authors who focus on the social will deal with models to support the base of the pyramid and the profit of these organizations lies in the generation of value in parallel with the communities in which they are intervening. Likewise, those SBMs whose emphasis is on the environment will seek to reduce negative impacts such as CO2 emissions and the use of plastics and/or decrease their consumption of energy and resources, all with the aim of generating greater economic gain while means are used in the value chain that are friendly to the environment.
