In Colombia, Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance (SOAT) was implemented since the year of 1986 as an instrument of public health policy. Over the years this mechanism has undergone different regulatory modifications, which impact the effectiveness of insurance in its dimension social. In the literature related to this type of mechanisms, it has been identified how affected the behavior of accident policyholders, however, it has not been carried out an in-depth analysis of the results in medical care that the implementation of this type of mechanisms. Using payment information SOAT (Fasecolda) death and medical care coverage from 2010 to 2018, performs an analysis of the effect of a modification of the coverage limits for medical expenses on the probability of death in traffic accident victims.
