abstract

  • A case of a patient diagnosed with polyneuropathy secondary to polyarteritis nodosa, due to its unusual presentation given the long period from the onset of symptoms until definitive diagnosis. Methodology: For this work, the CARE guide was followed for the preparation of case reports, published by the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology in 2017. Prior consent signature informed by the patient of the clinical history, obtaining the relevant data both from the clinical and paraclinical status of the patient. Results: The final diagnosis of the patient is defined as multiple mononeuritis secondary to a polyarteritis nodosa, which was confirmed by performing a skin biopsy and sural nerve. Discussion Vasculitis are autoimmune diseases that can cause marked disability of the patient, so it is vitally important to recognize symptoms that may correspond to this type of diseases according to the systemic commitment. Among these commitments those of the peripheral nervous system are found, the most common being Mononeuritis multiple, which, if not identified in time, can progress to become a polyneuropathy with the consequent neurological deficit and detriment of the quality of life of the patient
