From 2001 to 2003, the paramilitaries adapted two abandoned grounds in Juan Frío and Banco de Arena to turn them into crematorium ovens in which the remains of more than 500 victims were cremated (unofficial figure) for its final disappearance. However, only until 2008 the country knew about this practice of mass disappearance when Jorge Iván Laverde, alias 'El Iguano', confessed these facts before the Justice and Peace hearings. The present degree thesis makes a historical re-construction of what were, who were involved and how the crematorium ovens built by the paramilitaries belonging to the Bloque Catatumbo of the Autodefensas Unidas of Colombia worked during the years 2001, 2002 and 2003. Likewise, presents a complete panorama of regional journalism (specifically on Norte de Santander) in zones of paramilitary control and State corruption, and questions the informational quality of the newspaper La Opinion on the publications related to the townships of Juan Frío and Banco de Arena during the years in study through the use of the Journalistic Added Value (Valor Agregado Periodístico) tool. Was there quality information in the coverage of public and / or judicial order during the paramilitary hegemony in Norte de Santander? What does journalistic quality imply in events of pain, disappearance and death? Do journalistic quality and practices depend on the context from which it is reported? Why couldn't the events be reported in time? These are the questions that guide the present degree work.
