abstract

  • Introduction: Ultrasonic hydrolipoclasy is the infiltration of a sterile solution into adipose tissue with subsequent application of ultrasound. The procedure breaks the adipocytes by reducing the anthropometric measurements of the treated area. The available evidence is limited with respect to the volume of the solution being an administrator. We sought variation in the waist circumference of patients with normal body mass index treated at a cosmetic medicine center with an ultrasonic hydrolipoclasy session using different levels of hypotonic saline (SSH). Methodology: Retrospective cohort study of healthy adults treated at an Aesthetic Medicine Clinic in Bogotá, Colombia. Patients exposed were those who received 400 cc SSH compared to the non-exposed, who received 200 cc SSH. We reviewed randomly selected clinical records from June 2014 to June 2016. Results: We reviewed 28 medical records, 13 of the exposed patients and 15 of the unexposed patients. The majority of the women were women (60%), the median age in non-exposed was 30 years (minimum 24, maximum 41), in those exposed was 28 years (minimum 21, maximum 45). The reduction was statistically significant in waist circumference (p 0. 000), low abdomen perimeter (p 0. 001), hip perimeter (p 0. 000). There were no differences in body mass index (p 0. 453) or weight (p 0. 636). No major adverse events were reported. Conclusion: The use of 400 cc of SSH in a session of ultrasonic hydrolipoclasy is related to a statistically significant reduction in waist circumference.
