abstract

  • Objective: To identify processes and dynamics that allowed the development of family resilience in Afro-Colombian families of Chocó survivors of forced displacement.Methodology: A qualitative investigation of topical narrative design was conducted from in-depth interviews with six Afro-Colombian families directly affected by forced displacement, which arrived in Quibdó-Chocó as a receiving place. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and later analyzed using the triangulation technique. The software used were Word and Excel. Results: The main processes and dynamics generating family resilience were: their belief dynamics in a superior being: believe in God, love for the family, feminine leadership. In the organizational axis, institutional assistance was highlighted as a factor that has contributed to the improvement of their condition of forced displacement. Support was requested in areas such as health, employment and economically. Most of the families presented extensive monoparental typology, with female headship. The work activities were informal jobs. Regarding the communicational axis, difficulty in expressing negative emotions such as sadness was identified. Some elements were highlighted, such as Afro-Colombian characteristics such as union, joy, dance and music. Conclusions: Family resilience is a relational phenomenon whose development requires material and immaterial contributions, physical and psychic potential, family, economic, cultural and social processes. The generation and promotion of resilience in these families depended to a large extent on institutional support.
