abstract

  • Introduction Drivers of passenger land transportation have risk factors inherent in their work, so that intervention on these factors is an important aspect in the public transport companies since such activity affects the quality of life of drivers. Objective: To determine the prevalence of stress in the workplace and biomechanical risk factors associated among workers at company land transportation. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study with secondary data from a database of a population of 219 employees, of which 13 were administrative and 206 worked operation of a business passenger land transport. The variables included were sociodemographic, labor, stress-related and musculoskeletal symptoms. Statistical analysis included measures of central tendency and dispersion and to identify factors associated with stress tests of association Chi and Fisher exact test were used. Results: The average age of participants was 43 years (SD 10 years), being mostly male workers (96.3%). The results obtained by factor analysis confirmed the presence of stress in this population. Symptoms and risk factors Biomechanical neck and back were presented in 55.5%. Significant association between stress encountered symptoms in feet (p = 0.009) and for factors of biomechanical risk, there is significant relationship with time remaining adopting positions tilt forward (p = 0.000) and backward (p = 0.001) Low back / trunk and wrist postures (p = 0.000), and the exposition to vibrating surfaces (car seats) (p = 0.021). No significant association between stress and sitting posture. Conclusions: With this study, a prevalence of stress in the workplace found 78 % and biomechanical risk factors associated with seniority, posture and repetitiveness, with repercussions on the neck and lower back; therefore, it is required to monitor the health and work conditions for employees of transport sector.
