- Autoimmune diseases have been described among 2 to 5% of the world population.These have the capacity to affect any structure of the human body, with the eye being one of the most affected organs.Different characteristic manifestations of these diseases have been described, where uveitis, scleritis and dry eye stand out as the main ones.The relationship of these diseases with antibodies has been well described, but we have found that there are very few studies that relate and describe the prevalence of antibodies and ocular manifestations in autoimmune diseases.This is why we consider it relevant to carry out a study of these characteristics, since our main objective is to estimate the prevalence of ocular manifestations associated with antibody positivity in patients with autoimmune diseases in a Colombian population.
- Las enfermedades autoinmunes se han descrito entre el 2 al 5% de la población mundial. Estas tienen la capacidad de afectar cualquier estructura del cuerpo humano, siendo el ojo uno de los órganos más afectados. Se han descrito distintas manifestaciones características de estas enfermedades, donde resalta la uveítis, escleritis y el ojo seco como las principales. La relación de estas enfermedades con anticuerpos ha sido bien descrita, pero hemos encontrado que hay muy pocos estudios que relacionan y describen la prevalencia de los anticuerpos y manifestaciones oculares en enfermedades autoinmunes. Es por esto que consideramos relevante realizar un estudio de estas características, pues nuestro objetivo principal es estimar la prevalencia de manifestaciones oculares asociadas a la positividad de anticuerpos en pacientes con enfermedades autoinmunes en una población Colombiana.
