Dr. Alejandra de-la-Torre is an ophthalmologist from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, fellow in ocular immunology and Uveitis from the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard University, with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the Universidad del Quindío and Translational Medicine from the IPTT, University of Strasbourg, France. She is a researcher and director of the Neuro-immuno-ophthalmology research line at the Neuroscience Research Group NeURos from the Neuroscience Research Center Neurovitae, an Associate Professor, and Chief of the Immunology Unit of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Universidad del Rosario. Additionally, she is recognized as a Senior Researcher by the Colombian Science, Technology, and Innovation Ministry. Her areas of research interest are inflammatory eye diseases, especially uveitis and ocular toxoplasmosis, which have a high public health impact. She has more than 100 published scientific articles, many carried out in international collaboration with institutions in Europe, USA, and Africa, granting her worldwide recognition. In recent years, she has received the Honorable Mention at the National Academy of Medicine Scientific Research Awards, and Exaltation and recognition for her professional performance, contributions to the development of Colombian ophthalmology, and the good name of the Colombian Society of Ophthalmology. In the same way, she has been ranked as the No. 1 World expert in ocular toxoplasmosis by the American organization Expert Scape.
