Resumen
- Frontier infrastructures’ is an ethnographic film about the material, affective and moral relationship between humans and transport infrastructures in the Colombian Amazon. These infrastructures have played a vital role in the region’s history and geography. They have long allowed movement of people, goods, and ideas; shaped colonization and settlement processes throughout the region; andtransformed its landscape in significant ways. Moreover, they hold promises and desires of connectivity, inclusion and belonging. The hazardous, fragile, and often ruinous nature of many of those infrastructures, however, has turned them into pervasive symbols of abandonment, isolation and neglect. Such infrastructures are often perceived by people as material embodiments of their historical and geographical condition of frontier, and habitually elicit feelings ofexclusion from modernity, development and the state. This emotional and moral dimension of infrastructure forms the basis of this project. Specifically, the film follows different persons in their everyday journeys across various man-made and natural infrastructures (roads, rivers, trails) in order to explore and interrogate the different ways in which they make sense of their past, present, and possible futures through the perceived and lived realities that suchinfrastructures embody or symbolize.
- Infraestructuras fronterizas' es una película etnográfica sobre la relación material, afectiva y moral entre los seres humanos y las infraestructuras de transporte en la Amazonía colombiana. Estas infraestructuras han desempeñado un papel fundamental en la historia y la geografía de la región. Durante mucho tiempo han permitido el movimiento de personas, bienes e ideas; han dado forma a los procesos de colonización y asentamiento en toda la región; y transformó su paisaje de manera significativa. Además, contienen promesas y deseos de conectividad, inclusión y pertenencia. Sin embargo, la naturaleza peligrosa, frágil y a menudo ruinosa de muchas de esas infraestructuras las ha convertido en símbolos omnipresentes de abandono, aislamiento y abandono. Estas infraestructuras son a menudo percibidas por los ciudadanos como la encarnación material de su condición histórica y geográfica de frontera, y habitualmente suscitan sentimientos de exclusión de la modernidad, del desarrollo y del Estado. Esta dimensión emocional y moral de la infraestructura constituye la base de este proyecto. Específicamente, la película sigue a diferentes personas en sus viajes diarios a través de diversas infraestructuras naturales y artificiales (carreteras, ríos, senderos) con el fin de explorar e interrogar las diferentes maneras en las que dan sentido a su pasado, presente y futuro posible a través de las realidades percibidas y vividas por tales personas.infraestructuras que encarnan o simbolizan.
