abstract
Ocular toxoplasmosis (TO) is the most frequent cause of posterior uveitis and causes visual impairment in a large proportion of patients. Antibiotics and corticosteroids are administered to reduce the risk of permanent visual impairment by reducing the size of the retinocoroidal scar, the risk of recurrence, and the severity and duration of acute symptoms. Despite being a very common cause of subsequent infectious uveitis, the treatment of OT remains controversial. Through our systematic review and meta-analysis, our goal is to provide the best possible evidence-based information on the safety and efficacy of different OT antibiotic regimens.
