El Derecho Internacional tiene un impacto directo no sólo en las relaciones internacionales entre los sujetos tradicionales del Derecho Internacional, sino que también tiene un impacto directo a nivel nacional. En este sentido, académicos como Martti Koskeniemi, David Kenedy y Sundhya Pahuja, entre otros, han destacado la importancia de adoptar un enfoque crítico hacia la enseñanza y la práctica de la Internacional, recordando al mismo tiempo los orígenes de it´s, desafiando su universalidad y subrayando que es relevante para las realidades y necesidades locales. A pesar de la gran tradición de los estudiosos latinoamericanos presentes en el Derecho Internacional, con nombres tan conocidos como Andrés Bello, Carlos Calvo o Alejandro Álvarez, la educación jurídica internacional en América Latina se ha caracterizado por ser una forma dogmática de enseñanza, basada en la reproducción de un enfoque occidental del Derecho Internacional. En este sentido, se ha adoptado de forma acrítica, casi como algo natural o regalado, siguiendo un enfoque eurocéntrico y formalista. De acuerdo con lo anterior, el objetivo de este proyecto es crear una AMP para los académicos de la región latinoamericana que trabajan en temas relacionados con el Derecho Internacional, desde una perspectiva crítica y multidisciplinaria. Así, se pretende crear un espacio para compartir experiencias docentes personales, identificar problemas y desafíos comunes en el estudio y la enseñanza del Derecho Internacional y, al mismo tiempo, repensar el enfoque (o enfoques) tradicionales de la docencia y la investigación en las escuelas de derecho latinoamericanas.Este proyecto es el resultado directo de nuestra participación en el Taller IGLP 2014 en Doha. Durante el taller un grupo de personas de Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia y Perú, tuvieron la oportunidad de compartir nuestras experiencias de enseñanza e investigación con otros de la región. Esto nos permitió identificar los problemas y desafíos comunes que se presentan al estudiar y enseñar Derecho Internacional.Después de varias discusiones, identificamos el interés común de promover una tendencia académica para la renovación de la educación que hasta ahora se ha caracterizado por su carácter formal y dogmático. También estamos buscando promover la investigación jurídica del Derecho Internacional en la región y la necesidad de un proyecto a largo plazo que permita la difusión de un nuevo enfoque en la región.En este sentido, creemos que la creación de la AMP nos ayudará a analizar los retos a los que nos enfrentamos y a proponerles posibles soluciones. La AMP será un espacio en el que podremos compartir nuestras diferentes experiencias de enseñanza e investigación, identificar problemas comunes y comenzar a construir las bases para el movimiento regional y el replanteamiento tanto de la teoría como de la práctica del Derecho Internacional.La construcción de la AMP nos permitirá consolidar una red académica regional con otros colegas interesados en desafiar los supuestos tradicionales de enseñanza e investigación del Derecho Internacional. Creemos que la AMP servirá para descubrir los puntos ciegos, cuestionar ciertos aspectos asumidos en las metodologías tradicionales de enseñanza e investigación del Derecho Internacional y apoyar nuevos enfoques que sean más relevantes para la realidad de la región.
International Law has a direct impact not only on international relations between traditional subjects of International Law, but also has a direct domestic impact. In this regard, scholars such as Martti Koskeniemi, David Kenedy and Sundhya Pahuja among others, have highlighted out the importance of taking a critical approach towards the teaching and the practice of International whilst remembering it´s origins, challenging its universality and underlining that it is relevant to local realities and requirements. Despite the great tradition of Latin America scholars present in International Law, featuring well-known names such as Andrés Bello, Carlos Calvo or Alejandro Álvarez , the international legal education in Latin America has been characterized for being a dogmatic form of teaching, based on a reproduction of a Western approach towards International Law. In this regard, it has been adopted in an uncritical way, almost as something natural or given, following an Euroscentric and formalistic approach. According to the foregoing, the aim of this project is to create a WAP for scholars from the Latin-American region who are working on subjects related to International Law, from a critical and multidisciplinary perspective. Thus, the aim is to create a space to share personal teaching experiences, identify common problems and challenges when studying and teaching International Law and, at the same time, to rethink the traditional approach (or approaches) of teaching and research within Latin-American Law Schools.This project is the direct result of our participation in the IGLP Workshop 2014 in Doha. During the workshop a group of people from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru, had the opportunity to share our teaching and research experiences with others from the region. This allowed us to identify common problems and challenges that while studying and teaching International Law.After several discussions, we identified the common interest of promoting an academic trend for the renewal of the education that until now has characterized for its formal and dogmatic nature. We are also looking at promoting legal research of International Law in the region and at the need for a long-term project that will allow the diffusion of a new approach in the region.In this regard we believe that the creation of the WAP will help us analyze the challenges that we face and to propose possible solutions to them. The WAP will be a space in which we can share our different experiences of teaching and research, identify common problems, and begin to build the foundations for regional movement and the rethinking for both the theory and practice of International Law.The construction of the WAP will allow us to consolidate a regional academic network with other colleagues interested in challenging traditional assumptions of teaching and researching International Law. We believe the WAP will serve to uncover blind spots, to question certain aspects assumed in traditional methodologies of teaching and researching International Law and to support new approaches which are more relevant to the reality of the region.
