abstract

  • Introduction: Overweight and obesity are defined by the WHO as an abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat, considering as risk factors for cardiovascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal diseases, mental disorders and some types of cancer, with the consequent increase in mortality. One of the ways to measure it is through the BMI Body Mass Index (relation between weight and height squared). Objective: To estimate the association of work activity and lifestyles with obesity and overweight in health personnel of a primary care center in Bogotá during the year 2020. Methodology: This is a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study that carried out in 133 workers, from which sociodemographic variables were obtained, taking anthropometric measurements (weight, height and BMI) and questionnaires of physical activity and adherence to the Mediterranean diet, the data were analyzed with the statistical program SPSS 24. Results: The 47% of the participants had a normal BMI, 38% were overweight, 11% were obese, 65% of the respondents did not have comorbidities, 68% of the workers had low adherence to the Kidmed diet and it was evidenced that 45% of workers do not engage in physical activity. Conclusions: The prevalence of obesity and overweight among general practitioners was higher than that of other health professionals, although no statistically significant relationship was found between the profession and the increase in BMI, in addition, no association was demonstrated between low adherence to a healthy diet and physical activity with respect to the predisposition to develop overweight and obesity. Keywords: Obesity, overweight, health personnel.
