abstract

  • This thesis explores how collective memory is constructed through textile narratives and community organization in the costurero Mujeres Haciendo Memoria (Women Making Memory), located in Suba, Bogotá. Based on eight months of ethnographic fieldwork, the study examines the costurero not only as a space for artistic creation but also as a site of emotional support, intergenerational learning, and everyday resistance. The analysis focuses on the role of textile pieces as textimonios—embroidered testimonies that serve as living archives of individual and collective experiences—and on the dynamics of leadership within the group, particularly the tensions and negotiations between different generations of women.
