Introduction: The use of scales in Orthopedics is focused on evaluating the survival of the implant or quantifying the range of motion, joint stability and radiographic results and there may be disagreements in terms of satisfaction with the surgical procedure between the surgeon and the patient. Of special interest is the development of instruments such as scales that allow us to objectify the satisfaction of the patient in the Spanish language in the postoperative period of hip and knee arthroplasties. Objectives: The objective of this study is to validate the self-administered patient satisfaction scale for primary hip and knee arthroplasty (SAPS) from English to Spanish. Methodology: A process of validation and adaptation of the scale was carried out that includes translation and retro translation processes, pilot test, evaluation of the metric properties of the scale that include internal consistency, content validity and criterion validity. Results: After adapting the scale to the Spanish language, it was applied to 105 patients at the Imbanaco Medical Center in Cali - Colombia, who underwent hip and knee arthroplasty. The internal consistency of the scale measured with Cronbach's alpha presents a range of 0.783 to 0.810. The results of the scale are moderately correlated with the physical component of the SF-36 and the WOMAC results (ǭ 0.4882 - 0.5254). Conclusion: The SAPS scale adapted to the Spanish language in Cali - Colombia is a valid and safe instrument to measure patient satisfaction after primary total hip and knee replacement.
