abstract

  • Art seeks to be a connection between communication and expression and who observes it, that is, the spectator. Therefore, they can be reflected through this the mental faculties that allow to express opinions, thoughts and emotions. For this reason, that there is an alteration this project aims to recognize if it will be reflected in the artistic expressions, therefore the works produced by artists with psychopathologies and neurological diseases are analyzed to recognize if the visual language can be a diagnostic criterion. A series of variables was compiled for the subsequent analysis of artistic works considering the visual language as a diagnostic criterion in psychopathologies (schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and depression) and neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer type dementia and frontotemporal dementias). Different aspects are recognized that are altered by the symptoms of the disease, while in the cases of progressive primary aphasia as a neurodegenerative disease, increases in the abilities of the visual language are observed. From the rehabilitation perspective of the speech and language pathologist, the paradoxical functional facilitation effects are recognized, which help to focus the research on other paradoxical mechanisms by which the lesions result in beneficial changes for the brain and the way of communicating during the disease.
