abstract

  • The objective of this investigation is to analyze the role of principles in the InternationalPayments Regime’s failures when it has to respond to crisis situations, specifically, theintervention of the International Monetary Fund in Argentina’s economic crisis in 2001. The Regime, tied by its principles acted in such way that ended up generating some failures and exacerbating the crisis. Through the analysis of primary and secondary sources, and qualitative and quantitative methodology, this investigation aims to prove that principles that are fundamental for Regimes, are beliefs that tend to become dogmatic, therefore, do not allow institutions to act in a way adjusted to reality. Hence, principles may worsen or exacerbate the crisis they were supposed to fix, exactly what happened in Argentina in 2001.
