abstract

  • The present research work has the general objective of studying how the devaluation of the peso could have influenced the trade balance and the growth of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, specifically Mexico and Brazil, during the period between 2000 and 2018 and if this relationship complies with the theory. In this project, the trend of both total exports and imports from both Mexico and Brazil taking into account the relationship they have with the exchange rate. Throughout this study, an investigation is carried out with a quantitative approach and correlational method that considers the following variables: (i) representative exchange rate of each country against the dollar, (ii) income from total exports of Mexico and Brazil, (iii ) total import income from Mexico and Brazil, (iv) gross domestic product of Mexico and Brazil, and (v) year. The data corresponding to the variables mentioned above are collected from the database of the World Bank and the Central Banks of Mexico and Brazil. From them, linear correlation indices are calculated which, when analyzed, show evidence of a high linear correlation between the variables income from total exports and total imports of each of the countries with the fluctuation of the exchange rate of form annual.
