abstract

  • This article identifies factors that contribute to the sustainability of fifty SMEs belonging to medium-sized and family businesses in the city of Bogotá. A correlation analysis is made between the variables that contribute to the permanence of 50 medium and family businesses located in Colombia, in the manufacturing, communications, services, transport, commerce and professional activities sectors. A multiple linear regression model was specified taking as a prediction variable: the time the medium sized company was created and as explanatory variables: organizational strategy, leadership and business reality. The findings indicate that, in Colombia family-run SMEs can survive if they carry out financial management based on efficiency, development of competencies in their workers and permanent monitoring of the environment. The article contributes to the literature on entrepreneurial sustainability by identifying the factors that enable fifty Colombian SMEs to survive. The findings are relevant both to the management literature and to those entrepreneurs, unions and government entities focused on the study and support of small and medium enterprises.
