abstract

  • Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a health condition that occurs in a greater proportion in the working adult population. The main symptoms are usually referred by compression of the median nerve. Currently there are support tools for diagnosis, which allow to determine the presence of said pathology. In Colombia, epidemiological surveillance systems for musculoskeletal disorders are aimed at planning, implementing and evaluating prevention strategies, through the systematic collection of essential health data, performing an analysis of them, which in some cases does not allow to detect signs of alarm specific to the STC and controls are not taken on time. Objective: To establish a diagnosis of the validated questionnaires for the perception of symptoms in workers with CTS through a review of the scientific literature. Method: A review was made in the databases Scopus, Pudmed, Medline, Scielo, MedicLatina, among others. Publications carried out between 2006 and 2017, in Spanish and English, were included and related to the search terms: Workers, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Industries, Diagnostic, Self Report, diagnostic accuracy study, Hand symptom diagrams, Surveys and Questionnaires , Katz hand diagram, Review, Nerve conduction test, electrodiagnostic studies, Validity of Tests, prevention, Sensitivity and Specificity. In total 10 articles of the 61 found were selected. Result: Validated and used instruments presented acceptable results in terms of validity and reliability in the contribution of the diagnosis of CTS, but they must be complemented with clinical tools and diagnostic support. Conclusion: Instruments such as Boston for STC, DASH for upper limbs and Michigan Hand Outcomes for hands have been validated, finding that only the latter has been validated in Colombia
