abstract

  • Feeding a world whose population by 2050 is estimated to be 9 billion people, 20% more than the current population, will become one of the humanity's greatest challenges. To face this colossal challenge, not only the food production processes must be exponentially improved, but also the control of food waste and loss. In Colombia food waste and loss reaches around 10 million tons per year. / The incoherence that arises when comparing the percentage of food loss, versus the one million nine hundred and forty thousand hungry people every day, only in Bogotá, generates a deep question about how to contribute to achieve a solution, or better yet, how to be able to approach two problems that solve each other: Hunger and the loss and waste of food. / The SALVA project is a potential solution to the problem of food loss and waste in Colombia. Through the process of use and recovery fresh vegetables, which are removed from the shops or the logistics chain, as they do not comply with the technical or quality specifications in their early stages of maturation. Although despite their appearance their remain suitable for human consumption. / These recovered foods become the input for creating creams, generating the greatest possible food usage, reducing waste, impacting vulnerable populations on their food and nutritional security, as well as creating a potential business with social impact. / The Soups market in Colombia reaches sales close to $ 74.9 billion pesos equivalent to about 2,700 tons and with an average annual growth of 4.8% it means a market projection of $ 95,000 million pesos by 2025. SALVA seeks to position itself in the Colombian market reaching a 17.5% market share, with an strategy focused on the Bogota’s millennial population and through direct and indirect distribution channels, which represents by its sixth year of operation annual sales of around $ 6,500 million pesos, with a net flow of approximately $ 2,500 million pesos, an initial investment of $ 330 million pesos and a first operations year loan of $ 390 million pesos. The expected result of these operations yields a net present value of $ 2,268 million pesos and a IRR of 121%. In conclusion, SALVA is a project that generates an attractive business opportunity, based on the development of a structured strategic plan that does include a marketing, operations and financial plan.
