The purpose of this study is to describe the evolution of the concept of leadership in a chronological level, and how the historical, social and cultural variables have an effect on this. It will be exposed the major theories and its approaches. Also, there will be identified the characteristics of the leaders and followers, for the reader to understand the actual concept of leadership and be capable to differentiate the models in a wide context. On the other hand, an analysis of the similarities and differences between schools will be done, with the purpose of understand in which ways and contexts some styles of leadership are effective and in which ones are not.
