abstract

  • This research is based on the question of how among indigenous peoples and peasants living in the corregimientos of Palmarito and Nuevo Colon (in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta) were configured differentiated modalities and interpretations of a violence linked to the presence of armed actors. Our general aim was to make intelligible these different situations of armed violence through a matrix of questions based on the model of family resemblances, proposed by L. Wittgenstein and taken up by B. Bosa (2015a) as an analytic alternative for constructing concepts in the social sciences. Thus, the document is divided into 4 chapters. The first of them is focused on giving a contextualization of the armed violence in the southeastern region of the Sierra. The second, explains in detail the model of conceptual construction proposed by family resemblances. The third chapter develops the matrix of questions about the violence (this matrix is composed of six analytical tensions, based on the discussions proposed by N. Scheper-Hughes & P. Bourgois (2004) and P. Bourdieu & L. Wacquant (2004), among others). Finally, the fourth chapter analyses four cases of violence that happened in the two corregimientos mentioned above. These cases, as well as other empirical cases addressed in the document, are the result of three months of fieldwork in this southeastern region of the Sierra Nevada.
