abstract

  • Introduction: Fatigue is a condition that has taken on an important relevance in health workers in recent years, since it has been shown to be a predecessor in the appearance of Burnout syndrome. The worldwide prevalence is 1.2%. It was declared a pathology as of 1988, by the Atlanta Center for Disease Control (CDC) and in 1989 by the OMS, specifying its major and minor criteria for its diagnosis. Objective: To characterize the factors associated with work fatigue in health workers in the city of Ibague, Tolima during the period 2020 - 2021. Materials and methods: Observational, descriptive cross-sectional study with an analytical approach. The dependent variable was work fatigue, the independent variables and covariates were working hours and sociodemographic, labor and personal factors. The Swedish Occupational Fatigue Inventory Spanish modified version (SOFI-SM) questionnaire and the adaptation of the Survey Work-Home Interaction-Nijmegen (SWING) sociodemographic questionnaire, Spanish versions, were used. The sample was taken from the total population of health workers from 3 companies (398), obtaining 235 workers who participated in the study, of which 172 met the inclusion criteria. Results: 69% of the study population was female and 31% male, the mean age was 34.8 years (IC 95% 33,2 – 36,1), where 45% work more than 48 hours per week, 55 % were single and 47% work in the same position from 1 to 5 years. The found prevalence of fatigue was 41.9%. Conclusion: A statistically significant association between fatigue and the variables marital status (p=0.025) and working hours (p=0.01) was evidenced.
