abstract

  • The present investigation studies the effect of exposure to conflict in academic performance by analyzing the paramilitary demobilization from 2003 to 2006 in Colombia. For this, it is compared the academic performance of the students located in municipalities with and without presence of paramilitary groups, before and after the demobilization process through a model of differences in differences. As a result, it was possible to identify that paramilitary demobilization had a positive effect of 0.037 in the weighted and standardized average score of the school adequacy test “SABER 11” in students located in municipalities affected by paramilitary groups. Nevertheless, the effect is transitory due to the reorganization of new armed actors, especially in the region of Urabá and Cordoba.
