abstract

  • This thesis develops a hermeneutic and critical analysis of a certain moral experience of disability and its effects on the constitution of moral horizons or universes of meaning in western Judeo-Christian societies. Throughout the essay we argue about an ambivalent and dilemmatic existence of those we currently name as people with disabilities, and explain some interpretations of the presence of disability in many societies, as a cultural symptom to delimit what to say and what to do in order to have a good life. This seems to be implicitly a universal, which is based on metaphysical presuppositions and moral intuitions of completeness, perfection and normality. The thesis attempts to explore different dimensions of the issue at hand, showing the interdependence between them: hermeneutics, morality, applied ethics and politics.
