Brucellosis is a disease that is transmitted to humans through improper handling and consumption of meat and dairy products from infected animals. This is characterized by being the most frequent zoonotic disease worldwide, its incidence is between 1.3 and 70.0 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This bacterial infection is caused by different species of Brucella spp., which have cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and canines as their main hosts. The disease is characterized by its ability to infect humans, mainly people who carry out work activities aimed at the production of animal origin. Among these, we find veterinary doctors, zootechnicians and processing plant workers. The latter are the most affected by this type of infection. A considerable part of the Colombian territory, approximately 30%, is destined for livestock, pig and sheep exploitation, with a total of 29,071,892 heads of livestock by 2023. Therefore, this zoonotic disease presents a real risk for the Colombia.
