abstract

  • The construction of the modern project in Colombia in the early 20th century was a process based on the ideals of industrialization and civilization. In the same way it was crossed by a series of scientific approaches that legitimized a racist thought which helped to set up political and social practices aimed at improving the race in Colombia. This paper discusses some of these practices through medical discourses about hygiene and physical education carried out in Bogotá between 1913 and 1940. In particular, to explore the way that physical education was set up as a technology of power seeking the construction of healthy bodies in the service of capitalist modernization processes. For this, the proposal of Michel Foucault was taken as theoretical basis in order to establish the relationship between knowledge/power, as a cultural construct, of the modernity itself, that articulates a series of speeches productors of truth.
