abstract

  • The measurement of competitiveness across countries has been a topic of general interest in management’s existing literature. One of the most important factors to determine this topic is the regulatory environment and its effects in the economic performance of a country or region. One of the most relevant studies for the analysis of the regulatory environment is the Doing Business Report made by the World Bank, this study is published on a yearly basis. It measures the ease of doing business within a country through the evaluation of ten categories which serve as an input to determine the score of ease of doing business for a country. The main objective of this study is to identify the conditions and evolution of the regulatory environment and its relationship with the economic growth in countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in the period between the years 2009 and 2019. This study analyzed and tracked four variables from the Doing Business report as well as economic growth data taken for each of the countries analyzed within the period in question. To evaluate the presence of a relation between the variables taken from the Doing Business report and economic growth a statistical analysis of linear correlation was made to determine whether if there is a relation between these variables.
