abstract

  • The following thesis is a qualitative research and single case study of a small and international business in the educational sector named Sprach Institut – Instituto Cultural Colombo Alemán S.A.S. in Bogotá, Colombia. The research investigates the role of organizational learning and knowledge management within the organizational structure of the firm. The effectivity of learning and knowledge management is examined, as well as possible barriers that impede organizational members and the organization to learn. With the application of the 5I model the five processes of learning that occur in and between the three levels, individual, group and organizational, are explained, discovering practices that encourage learning, but also deficiencies and habits and processes that hamper the development of the members and the organization. The author reaches the conclusion that the barriers of learning impede the organization to achieve sustainable and long-term growth. He indicates possibilities and provides clear and detailed recommendations to overcome the obstacles that restrain the development within the organization.
