This work aims to answer the following questions: ¿What is the definition of organizational resilience in modern scientific literature?; ¿What are the characteristics of organizational resilience ?; How is organizational resilience measured? This in order to generate a unifying concept of Resilience that allows a better understanding of its characterization and factors to take into account to promote and sustain it over time within organizations. We conducted a systematic review of the literature of scientific documents published between 2000 and 2020 using the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases. From the results obtained from the search, we analyze the definition given to resilience through different areas of study such as medicine, public administration, lodging services, manufacturing industry, administration, among others, as well as the key elements that characterize it. Through this analysis, a unified definition of organizational resilience was generated that can be applied to different sectors and allows its evaluation throughout the life cycle of companies, promoting continuous improvement of key aspects in order to contribute to the sustainability of the organizations.
