  • This document shows a perspective of how a small and open economy (in commercial and investment subjects) like Colombian´s, is affected by shocks suffered by big economies like United States. During the period of study of the United States economy has suffered two shocks: first the subprime mortgage crisis in 2007.2008; then the sovereign debt crisis in 2011. These two shocks affected the Colombian´s economy. In both cases, can be established a key fact that detonated the crisis. At first, the Lemhman Brother´s income in chapter 11 of bankruptcy protection, in September 15 of 2008.Second, the detonate was the decline in United States sovereign debt rating by Standard and Poor´s in august 5, 2011. This key days, affected the main index of the stock market in the United States, especially the ones related with the financial activity, then presumably affected also the fundamentals of the Colombian economy like exchange rate (USD/COP). The main objective of this document is to establish the impact of the North American crisis in 2007-2008 and 2011 in Colombian´s economy especially on the exchange rate USD/COP. Also the document analyses the causes that generates those crisis in the United States, with emphasis in the lack of regulation control by the government´s institution in the subprime mortgages. The same way is analyzed the role of the risk rating agencies in the United States debt crisis. ]
