abstract

  • The main objective of this paper is to explain the incidence of drug-related crime and the public health, in the devising of alternatives frameworks to the drug prohibition in order to mitigate the detrimental consequences of the worldwide phenomenon of drugs in non-producing countries; Portugal and Uruguay. The violence, corruption, deaths from overdose and the proliferation of infectious and chronic diseases, among other indicators, have made it possible for the States and their Governments to be vulnerable at the domestic and international levels, increasing real and social costs. As a result of the studies conducted by Goldstein and the Official institutions in drug related issues in these countries, in this document it was able to identify the relations between social problems and the new legislation, which have become promoters of a new approach; the individual.
