abstract

  • Objective: To determine the relationship between the perception of workers on safety at work and occupational accident rate observed in a company of the petroleum sector from 2016 to 2017. Methodology: Analytical cross-sectional study comparing the records on risk perception of a group of workers at the operational level who presented accidents at work during the study period with the records of another group of workers of the same level who did not present work accidents in the same period. The sociodemographic variables and those related to the dimensions of the Nordic questionnaire on occupational safety and health were included. Frequency distributions, measures of central tendency and variability were obtained. Chi-square and Fisher's exact test were used to analyze the statistical association. The bivariate statistical analysis was made based on the Student's t-test and it was established a level of a priori statistical significance of α= 0.05. Results: Falls, excessive effort along with stings and entrapment, covered 69.3% of total accidents. The most prevalent affected parts of the body were trunk, lower limbs and hands (65.3%). No statistically significant differences were found between study groups with respect to workers' perception of occupational safety and health (p value <0.05). Conclusions: There is a good perception of the safety of workers who are injured or not injured, since both the line of command and the companions of the company adequately manage safety at their place of work.
