abstract

  • A growing concern for the environmental effects of climate change has led global, regional and local stakeholders to prioritize its mitigation and prevention in their agendas. In Colombia, the most common approach is the localized action towards conservancy of the environment by communities in each of its territories. Nonetheless, the specific and quintessential actions of women towards these conservation efforts have not yet been properly recognized by governmental, non-governmental and civil organizations involved. The main objective of this research is to present evidence of the ways in which territorial governance in communities of the biogeographic region of Chocó has been strengthened by the participation of women in ecological restoration and environmental conservation initiatives. Thus, this research will analyze the actions carried out by women leaders within the context of the Community REDD+ Portfolio. Particularly, this research will examine the case of some afrocolombian community councils located in the Colombian biogeographic region of Chocó.
