abstract

  • This case study based on “Coordinadora Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Pequeños Productores de Comercio Justo” seeks to analyze Colombian organized small producers’ motivations to get involved in transnational advocacy networks such as CLAC during 2012-2015. Therefore, it is presumed that some of the Colombian small producers that participate in CLAC have a clear manifestation of the need to receive from this network, technical and strategic advice, to get better chances in the commercialization of agricultural goods. Notwithstanding, this investigation seeks to demonstrate other motivations such as political, in the involvement of small producers to transnational advocacy networks, hence through them they participate in global causes with transcendence in politics. Agricultural fair trade in Colombia seen from the perspective of transnational advocacy networks, and the claims that can be exposed in their international platforms, are an input to International Relations thus this topic has been investigated in various occasions from a commercial view or as strategy to promote development, but there has been little to no discussion about fair trade and how transnational advocacy networks may serve as a platform for political claims.
