A Hospital journey towards the implementation of a sustainability strategy The health sector in Colombia has presented challenges in the political, social, and economic context in which it has developed, experiencing a constant transformation in the financing, administration, and implementation of the system in general; however, despite the impact that the sector has on the social and environmental spheres, it is a sector that has failed to develop and implement sustainability strategies. In this case study, it will be presented the transition that a health Service Provider Institution has undergone on the road to sustainability, enabling it to become a reference on a national and international scale. Initially, the context in which the institution develops as part of the health system in Colombia is presented, followed by a description of how a health institution manages to identify sustainability in its management and the phases it went through to implement a sustainability strategy, which includes the involvement of stakeholders, the performance of environmental and materiality analysis. Subsequently, the integration in the core business operation and the importance of linking corporate governance and executive management in the deployment of actions and commitments in this area. Finally, the progress, achievements and recognitions received by this institution in sustainability are presented, the good practices implemented voluntarily are highlighted and recommendations are made to strengthen its leadership and management. It is expected that this case study will be useful to continue building the path towards sustainability by implementing ESG criteria in the Institution; besides providing a reference to other institutions within the health sector for the implementation of the sustainability strategy within their management and showing the importance of having clarity on the contributions made to the world in terms of sustainability.
