abstract

  • This research aims to analyze the implications of teleworking and mandatory preventive isolation implemented as a result of the covid-19 pandemic in working life, professional development and motherhood. In accordance with this objective, this research collects some testimonies of professional women from the city of Bogotá with sons and daughters of dependent ages to understand how they were affected by these measures. Based on the anthropology of work and gender studies, this work delves into topics such as working conditions, the work environment, the bonds between mothers and children, the emotional well-being of mothers, the feelings and beliefs associated with motherhood, among others. Likewise, the experiences of the women interviewed are discussed in light of the problems of gender inequality in the workplace and family, issues that have been widely discussed from critical feminist studies and theories. As a result, it is found that although the implementation of teleworking posed challenges and difficulties for most of the workers who had to adapt to this new work model, it implied greater difficulties for mothers with sons and daughters of dependent ages due to their care work of the sons and home. Similarly, there were repercussions on their professional development due to the abandonment of personal projects, changes in relationships with children, increase in unpaid work and loss of self-care.
