The following work pretended to explore through literature review the issue of drug addiction, having alcohol as the main toxic substance, as well as the role of such substance within the Colombian culture, specifically in the young population. The contribution of authors that have done research from psychoanalysis were taken into account, as well as those sources available of research made in Colombia. An approach was made to the concepts of substance and its general aspects, counting with existing psychoanalytic literature. Was also developed a review of the relationship between culture and alcohol, and lastly the contextualization of Colombia, historical and cultural aspects that are relevant when talking about alcohol intake. It was found that there is scant research on the subject about the relationship between alcoholism and Colombian culture from psychoanalysis, and we believe that this document provides arguments to continue the research on this topic.
